Achieve the Core (Blog Post 8)

In my research this week, I utilized a resource we were given in class for the common core.  It is called Achieve the Core.  http://www.achievethecore.org/  Check this site out.  The reason I found this valuable for me, at the present moment, is because I just had a staff development training half-day with my ELA department.  We were talking about purchasing materials for our site next year.  This link on the achieve.org site came up.  http://www.achievethecore.org/leadership-tools-common-core/aligning-materials/  My English teacher utilized the rubric on this link to help them align units.  It was a guide and a principal to follow.  The nice thing about the common core is that we are all this together.  Collaborate together to greatness.

Get your students ready!

In our common core class, we took the sample exam for a grade level and either ELA or math.  Get your students ready, this test is going to be challenging.  Higher order thinking, stamina to get through the problems, drag and drop, and drawing are just a few of the nuances the students will encounter.  We better start using technology differently in the classrooms, in order to embrace this change.  Check it out.

Educational iPad Applications

The following is our list for the 55 best apps for learning we can find. Some are formal learning–math drilling and phonics, for example–while others are RSS readers, social media platforms, and the like. These are purposely not all purely academic, “training” apps that focus on individual skills, but rather the an array of apps students could use daily to improve their ability to think, connect, and use information.

Skype and Online Learning

Hello, I need some help.  We are looking for an alternative to Skype, since our system cannot support it.  I am looking for a collaboration tool for distance learning to tutor, share screens, discuss, etc., with parents and students in a distance learning environment.  Any ideas?

We are also making final decisions on Odysseyware and Apex Learning for next year.

Attached are two links to the sites.  Let me know what you think?

Odyssey ware:  http://www.odysseyware.com/

Apex Learning:  http://apexlearning.com/

I am interested in input!

Quote of the day!

The first rule of any technology used in a business is that automation applied to an efficient operation will magnify the efficiency. The second is that automation applied to an inefficient operation will magnify the inefficiency.

“Project Red”

My dissertation is focusing on technology in the classroom, as it relates to teacher technology self-efficacy and instruction time.  After this process, I am very interested in accessing information regarding proper implementation of technology in the classroom because I feel many schools may not be implementing it correctly to maximize results.  I found this website and several journals/books regarding implementation.  Feel free to take a look at this site.  It is a good resource.

Personal Learning Network

My personal learning network is two fold.  I have a personal interest in technology gadgets and always will.  So, I enjoy basic computing, building computer or two and learning what new devices can do.  But, also I have been pushed in my professional life in technology.  Being a principal has required my desire for technology to be implemented into the classroom and administrative work I complete.  It is important for students to succeed using technology and embrace the benefits it can offer.

I have attached a graphic for review.
